It was announced on the 22nd that LG Energy Solutions, Ford, and Koç Holding have signed a non-binding MOU to build one of the largest commercial electric vehicle battery cell production facilities in the wider European region

The three companies are promoting the construction of a battery plant with a capacity of about 25GWh with the goal of mass production in 2026 in the Tashkent region near Ankara, Turkey, and plan to expand it to 45GWh in the future.

Ford and Kochi have established a joint venture, Ford Autosan, in Turkey, producing 450,000 commercial vehicles annually.

Currently, LGES has an annual production capacity of 200GWh, and the order backlog reached 385 trillion won at the end of last year.

Ford aims to produce more than 2 million electric vehicles worldwide by 2026 and plans to increase the proportion of electrified vehicles to 40% of new vehicle sales by 2030.

LGES started supplying the first electric vehicle battery to Ford in 2011 and is increasing the supply every year. In July of last year, as sales of the Ford Mustang Mach-E and electric commercial vehicle E-Transit increased, the battery production line at the Polish plant was doubled from the previous one and will be expanded sequentially thereafter. It has been said that

■LG에너지솔루션, 포드-코치와 ‘튀르키예 배터리 합작법인 설립’ 협약

LG에너지솔루션과 미국 포드, 튀르키예 코치 기업이 전기차 배터리 생산 합작법인 추진을 위한 양해각서를 체결했다고 22일 밝혔다.

3사는 튀르키예 앙카라 인근 바슈켄트 지역에 2026년 양산을 목표로 약 25GWh 규모의 배터리 공장 건설을 추진하고, 향후 45GWh까지 확대한다는 계획이다.

포드와 코치는 튀르키예 내에 합작사 포드 오토산을 설립해 연 45만 대 규모의  상용차를 생산 중이다.

LG에너지솔루션은 현재 연간 200GWh 규모의 생산능력을 확보하고 있으며, 지난해 말 수주잔고는 385조원에 달한다.

포드는 2026년까지 전세계적으로 전기차 200만대 이상을 생산하는 것을 목표로 하고 있으며, 2030년까지 신차 판매 중 전동화 차량 비중을 40%까지 확대할 예정이다.

LG에너지솔루션은 2011년 포드에 첫 전기차 배터리 공급을 시작하며 매년 공급 물량을 늘려 나가고 있다. 지난해 7월 포드 머스탱 마하-E(Mustang Mach-E)와 전기 상용차 이-트랜짓(E-Transit)의 판매 확대에 따라 폴란드 공장의 배터리 생산라인 규모를 기존에서 2배 증설하고, 이후 순차적으로 증설할 것이라고 밝힌 바 있다.

권영수 LG에너지솔루션 부회장은 “앞으로 선도적인 고객가치 역량을 더욱 강화해 포드, 코치와 함께 유럽의 전기차 전환을 가속화하고 지속 가능한 미래를 위한 협력을  한층 공고히 해 나갈 것”이라고 말했다. 

리사 드레이크 포드 부사장은 “LG에너지솔루션 및 코치와 함께 탄탄한 생산기반을 마련해 성장하는 유럽 전기차 시장의 미래를 구축해 나갈 것“이라고 말했다.
