On the 22nd, Daewoong Pharmaceutical announced that it has been awarded the 24th Korea New Drug Award (KNDA) Grand Prize for 2 years in a row. KDRA(Korea Drug Research Association)-sponsored KNDA is also supported by the Ministry of Science & ICT, the Ministry of Health & Welfare, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy.
KNDA was established in 1999 to encourage the development of the bio-health industry and new drug research and development in Korea.
Envlo tablet obtained a permit for a new medicine to treat diabetes with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors for the first time in Korea among the pharmaceuticals last November and was selected as the first company for Global Innovative products on Fast Track (GIFT) of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety by being recognized for the excellence and potential of the new medicine.
"Based on the excellent efficacy of Enblo, we will expand not only diabetes treatment but also various indications in the fields of obesity, and (heart, kidney, liver, brain, and eye) diseases, and grow it as the best new drug in the class" said, Daewoong Pharmaceutical CEO Jeon Seung-Ho.
The 3rd Bio-Industry Award will be given to those who have contributed to advancing Bio-industry In parallel with KNDA. At this ceremony, Daewoong Pharmaceutical's team leader Choi Ji-Soo will receive a commendation from the Minister of Science and ICT for his contribution to the development of the domestic bio-industry.

■대웅제약, 대한민국신약개발상 2년 연속 수상
대웅제약은 엔블로정을 개발한 공로로 한국신약개발연구조합이 주관하고 과학기술정보통신부, 보건복지부, 산업통상자원부가 후원하는 제24회 대한민국신약개발상(KNDA, Korea New Drug Award) 신약개발부문 대상을 2년 연속 수상했다고 22일 밝혔다.
대한민국신약개발상은 우리나라 바이오헬스 산업의 발전과 신약연구개발 의욕을 고취하고, 고부가가치 신약개발 성공기업과 신기술창출∙기술수출 기업의 업적을 기념하기 위해 1999년 제정됐다.
엔블로정은 지난해 11월 국내 식품의약품안전처로부터 품목허가를 취득하고, 올해 상반기 국내 발매를 목표로 하고 있다. 엔블로정은 포도당을 직접 소변으로 배출시킴으로써 혈당을 감소시키는 기전을 갖고 있다. 혈당 및 당화혈색소(HbA1C) 강하 효과 및 안전성이 임상을 통해 입증됐다.
대웅제약 전승호 대표는 “엔블로의 우수한 효능을 기반으로 당뇨병 치료제뿐만 아니라 비만, 심장질환, 신장질환, 간질환, 뇌질환, 안과질환 영역 등에서 다양한 적응증을 확대해 계열 내 최고 신약으로 키울 것”이라고 밝혔다.
이번 시상식과 병행하여 제3회 바이오산업분야 유공자 표창식도 개최될 예정이다. 시상식에서는 대웅제약 최지수 팀장이 국내 바이오산업 발전에 기여한 공로로 과학기술정보통신부장관 표창을 수상할 예정이다.
