Bloomenergy announced on the 21st that it would supply a 300kW heat supply type SOFC(Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) to an affiliate of EnBW in Germany. Bloomenergy took its first steps in the German energy market with this contract.
The SOFC is a heat supply-type solution that recovers the heat of 350°C or higher generated during the power generation process and uses it for steam production, hot water supply, and heating.
Bloomenergy can achieve over 90% of overall energy efficiency by using heat lost during energy generation as renewable energy. SK ecoplant also applied a heat supply type SOFC to a fuel cell power plant near the Haeoreum Sports Center in Donghae, Gangwon-do, South Korea, which was completed last year. Since July, the generated heat has been used to heat the swimming pool and supply hot water.
Bloomenergy expects to solidify its position in the European renewable energy market with this order.
Bloomenergy signed SOFC supply contracts with Italian carmaker Ferrari, British oil company Perenco, and Latvian energy service company Elugie.
An official from SK Eco Plant said, "Bloomenergy will gain an edge in the European market, where demand for renewable energy is high, by continuously expanding SOFC supply."
According to the 'Stationary Fuel Cell Growth Opportunities' report by Frost & Sullivan, a global consulting firm published in June, Bloomenergy has the world's largest share of stationary fuel cells, with 44% of the global market share among many fuel cell companies.
Since 2018, SK ecoplant has established a Bloom SK Fuel Cell plant in Korea through a strategic partnership with Bloom Energy. As of the end of last year, it achieved SOFC orders of about 380MW, ranking first in the domestic fuel cell market for power generation.
Lee Wang-Jae, CEO of SK ecoplant's Eco Energy, said, "SOFC with high-efficiency power generation technology is becoming a trend in the global fuel cell market, and SK ecoplant will accelerate the supply of eco-friendly energy and exports through collaboration with Bloomenergy."

블룸에너지는 독일 EnBW의 계열사에 300kW급 열 공급형 고체산화물 연료전지(SOFC_Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) 를 공급한다고 21일 밝혔다. 이번 수주로 블룸에너지는 독일 에너지 시장에 첫발을 내디뎠다.
블룸에너지가 수주한 SOFC는 전력 생산 과정 중에 생긴 350°C 이상의 열을 회수해 ▲스팀 생산 ▲온수 공급 ▲난방 등에 활용하는 열 공급형 솔루션이다. 에너지 발전 과정 중 손실되는 열을 재생에너지로 활용함으로써 90% 이상의 에너지 효율을 달성할 수 있다. SK에코플랜트는 지난해 완공한 강원도 동해시 해오름스포츠센터 인근 연료전지 발전소에도 열 공급형 SOFC를 적용했다. 생산된 열은 올해 7월부터 수영장 난방과 온수 공급에 사용하고 있다.
이번 수주로 블룸에너지는 유럽 신재생에너지 시장에서의 위치를 확고히 할 것으로 전망한다.
블룸에너지는 이탈리아 완성차 업체 페라리(Ferrari), 영국 석유기업 페렌코(Perenco), 라트비아 에너지 서비스기업 일루지(Elugie) 등과도 SOFC 공급 계약을 체결했다.
SK에코플랜트 관계자는 "블룸에너지는 연이은 SOFC 공급 확대로 재생에너지 수요가 높은 유럽 시장에서 우위를 점할 것"이라고 말했다.
지난 6월 발간한 글로벌 컨설팅 기업 프로스트&설리반(Frost&Sullivan)의 ‘고정식 연료전지 성장 전망(Stationary Fuel Cell Growth Opportunities)’ 보고서에 따르면 블룸에너지는 다수의 연료전지 업체 중 고정식 연료전지 글로벌 점유율 44%로 세계 1위를 기록했다.
SK에코플랜트는 2018년부터 블룸에너지와 전략적 협력관계를 통해 경북 구미시에 블룸SK퓨얼셀 공장을 준공했다. 지난해 말 기준, 약 380MW 규모의 SOFC 수주 실적을 달성해 국내 발전용 연료전지 시장 점유율 1위를 기록했다.
이왕재 SK에코플랜트 에코에너지BU 대표는 “고효율 발전 기술을 갖춘 SOFC는 글로벌 연료전지 시장에서 대세로 자리 잡고 있다”며 “SK에코플랜트는 블룸에너지와의 협업을 통해 친환경 에너지 공급을 가속화하고 수출에도 박차를 가할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
