Hell Broke Loose 'KOREA'...Crazy 'Gucci'-Stopped Beating 'Kakao'-Dances with Bugs 'HOBAN SUMMIT'

The untimely early summer weather is causing high temperatures. The sunny spring weather of May is a thing of the past.

While the malaise index is rising in the heat wave, the news of the fashion show of global luxury company GUCCI, the suspension of Kakao Pay service, and the construction of 'HOBAN,' a new apartment full of bugs, have raised eyebrows among the public.

■ GUCCI apologizes for 'crazy fashion show'...controversy erupts.

GUCCI held a fashion show at Gyeongbokgung Palace in Jongno-gu, Seoul, Korea, on the afternoon of the 16th, and it was confirmed that nearby residents were inconvenienced by the noise generated by the wrap-up party.

GUCCI had held its '2024 Cruise Fashion Show' at Gyeongbokgung Palace the previous day and continued to party in a neighboring building.

The event was held on the roof of a building on Dohwaseo-gil, opposite Gyeongbokgung Palace, with beams firing and music playing loudly. The lights inside and outside the building flashed through the glass, making it visible from afar. The area around the building where the party was held was primarily residential. People complained on social media that the after-party was noisy and inconvenient.

One netizen who tweeted about the situation said, "I feel like I'm going to have a mental breakdown. This region is a residential zone, and it's 11:30 p.m. How can this be? Shouldn't a luxury company behave like a luxury company?" He was outraged. "It's been going on for two to three hours," said the mother, who called the police.

GUCCI apologized in a statement following the noise controversy behind Gyeongbokgung Palace.

"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to the residents of Gyeongbokgung Palace, including the noise caused by the after-party held after the fashion show on the 16th," GUCCI said in an official statement on the 17th.

The show was GUCCI's first cruise-ship fashion show in Asia. The event was called "Cosmogony" and featured a new collection by GUCCI's creative director, Alessandro Michele. About 570 entertainment and fashion industry people attended the event, including singer and actress IU, actors Lee Jung-Jae, Kim Hye-soo, Elizabeth Olsen, and Dakota Johnson, all Gucci ambassadors.

■ Stopped Kakao...KakaoTalk - KakaoPay Frequent error 'To ad to Spurs' WOES'

Following the access error of KakaoTalk on Mother's Day, May 8, KakaoPay service failure occurred on May 15, a week later. This system error is a situation where the recurrence prevention measures announced after the large-scale access failure of Kakao last year have become meaningless.

The KakaoTalk error occurred for about 19 minutes from 1:35 p.m. on the 8th. "Today, from 1:35 p.m. to 1:54 p.m., some users experienced difficulties in receiving and sending KakaoTalk messages and logging in," the Kakao team said on its Twitter account, adding, "We conducted an emergency inspection immediately after detecting the failure, and all is now normalized."

Although the downtime was not extended, netizens were unhappy with the error again. On January 17, KakaoTalk also experienced a transmission error for nine minutes. Following the "Kakao Crash" that occurred in October last year, the company has been criticized for frequent mistakes this year.

On the afternoon of the 15th, Teacher's Day, KakaoPay's service crashed. It was incredibly embarrassing because it was the first press conference KakaoPay CEO Shin Won-Geun held after his appointment.

At the event, the company announced its goal of reaching 10 billion annual transactions within three years. "We will actively work to boost the stock price as soon as the profitability of Kakao Pay Securities is improved," Shin said.

Afterward, several netizens left comments on the article, such as "Don't be a bust and focus on strengthening customer service," "It's pathetic," and "The DB crashed on the day of the announcement, so the people in charge must be packing their bags," and "Fix the error quickly," among others.

Kakao Pay said, "We debugged all services as of 2:25 p.m. that day and confirmed the cause of the error was database load.

"Due to the database load, most users were unable to use the remittance, payment, and asset management services related to Kakao Pay Money from 12:10 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.," the company said, adding, "It has now been normalized, but we are continuously monitoring it."

A representative from Kakao Pay was coy in a call with Korea Duty-Free News on the 16th, saying, "It would be difficult to say (the cause of the failure)."

"Yesterday evening, there were two access delays," the official said, adding, "Through continuous monitoring, it has now been normalized."

■ 'HOBAN Summit' New Apartment Occupant...'Dances With Bugs'

'Hump flies,' a flying insects, were found in a new apartment in Songdo, Incheon, and the apartment builder was identified as HOBAN Construction.

According to Songdo New City A Apartment residents on Saturday, eggs and carcasses of hump flies have been found in the apartment's window frames, vanity drawers, and built-in cabinets since the middle of last month. The apartment complex, which started moving in at the end of February, has 1,820 units, and hundreds of households have reportedly filed complaints about pests such as horn flies.

Hovan E&C said it is actively disinfecting and sanitizing the apartment complex through an external specialized company. "Regardless of whether it's a fly or not, we are disinfecting households that have requested disinfection," an official from Hoban E&C told Korea Duty-Free News. "We are considering replacing parts of the furniture in units where we think there is a problem despite disinfection," he said.

Hump flies are known to live inside furniture such as built-in cabinets as they feed on molds and mushrooms, and when they become adults, they emerge through gaps in the furniture. It is said that they often stay in the raw furniture materials as eggs, larvae, or pupae from the beginning and hatch when the time comes.
