Cosmax's skin delivery technology has been selected as a 'Next-Generation World-Class Product' for two consecutive years.
Cosmax announced on the 13th that its 'lipid-based nano-vesicle skin delivery system' was selected as the next-generation world-class product at the' 2023 World-Class Product Certification Ceremony', which the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) hosted on the 9th.
The nano-vesicle skin delivery vehicle was introduced at the International Society of Cosmetic Science and Technology (IFSCC) last year. Cosmax named the substance 'Skin-Communicator™' because it helps cosmetics interact with skin.
Skin-Communicator is a substance developed by Cosmax and Professor Hyomin Lee's research team from the Department of Chemistry at Pohang University of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Health and Welfare's project to develop leading technology for skin science applied materials.
Cosmetics using Skin-Communicator showed an increase in skin absorption rate compared to previous products, with a 20% increase in whitening efficacy and an 80% increase in wrinkle improvement efficacy. Cosmax's new material research results were published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, a scientific journal of the American Chemical Society.
MOTIE selected Cosmax's skin delivery technology as a next-generation world-class product for two consecutive years. The material chosen previously was a 'liposome skin delivery vehicle' using chitosan, a natural polymer extracted from mushrooms.
Park Cheon-Ho, Vice Director of Cosmax R&I (Research & Innovation) Center, said, "As the global cosmetics market has recently shifted to focus on efficacy, it is becoming more important to determine how much efficacy can be delivered to the actual skin." He added, "Cosmax is committed to introducing excellent K-beauty products globally. And we will continue to develop technology steadily for this purpose."
Meanwhile, Cosmax's performance in the third quarter of 2023 recorded consolidated sales of KRW 458.3 billion, up 15.5% compared to the same period last year, and consolidated operating profit recorded KRW 33.3 billion, up 68.7% compared to the same period the previous year.
Even though the third quarter is the cosmetics industry's off-season, the operating profit of Cosmax's domestic corporation more than doubled compared to the same period last year. This increase is due to the growth of domestic demand at domestic subsidiaries and increased performance at Southeast Asian subsidiaries.

코스맥스의 피부 전달체 기술이 2년 연속 '차세대 세계일류상품'에 선정됐다.
코스맥스는 지난 9일 산업통산자원부가 주최한 ‘2023 세계일류상품 인증서 수여식’에서 ‘지질기반 나노 베지클 피부 전달체’가 차세대 세계일류상품으로 선정됐다고 13일 밝혔다.
나노 베지클 피부 전달체는 지난해 세계화장품학회(IFSCC)에서 선보인 기술이다. 코스맥스는 해당 물질에 대해 화장품과 피부의 상호 작용을 돕는다는 의미에서 ‘스킨 커뮤니케이터(Skin-Communicator™)’로 명명했다.
Skin-Communicator는 코스맥스가 보건복지부 피부과학 응용소재 선도기술 개발사업을 수행하면서 포항공과대학교 화학과 이효민 교수 연구팀과 함께 개발한 물질이다.
Skin-Communicator를 적용한 화장품은 종전 자사 제품 대비 피부 흡수율이 증가하면서 미백 효능은 20%, 주름 개선 효능은 80% 증가한 결과를 보여줬다. 미국화학회 과학저널인 ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces는 코스맥스의 신물질 연구결과를 게재했다.
산자부는 코스맥스의 피부 전달체 기술을 지난해에 이어 2년 연속 차세대 세계일류상품으로 선정했다. 앞서 선정한 물질은 버섯에서 추출한 천연고분자 키토산을 이용한 '리포좀 피부전달체'였다.
박천호 코스맥스 R&I(Research&Innovation)센터 부원장은 "최근 글로벌 화장품 시장은 효능 우선주의로 변화하면서 실제 피부에 어느 정도의 효능을 전달할 수 있느냐가 중요해지고 있다"며 "코스맥스는 글로벌 시장에서 우수한 K뷰티 제품을 선보이기 위해 꾸준한 기술개발을 이어 나갈 것"이라고 말했다.
한편, 코스맥스의 23년 3분기 실적은 연결 매출 4583억 원으로 전년 동기 대비 15.5% 성장했고 연결 영업이익도 333억 원을 기록해 전년 동기 대비 68.7% 성장한 것으로 나타났다.
3분기는 화장품업계의 비수기임에도 불구하고 코스맥스 국내 법인 영업이익은 전년 동기대비 2배 이상 증가 한 것으로 드러났다. 이는 국내법인의 내수 성장과 동남아 법인의 실적 상승에 따른 영업이익이 증가한 결과가 더해져 호실적이 나타난 것으로 보고 있다.
