▶ After completion at the end of 2025, start mass production of high-end copper foil with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons
LOTTE Energy Materials(LOTTE EM) announced on the 7th that it will complete a smart factory in Spain by 2025 and target the European high-end copper foil market.
LOTTE EM plans to invest KRW 560 billion in Mont-Roig del Camp, Catalonia, Spain, to complete a high-end copper foil production base for electric vehicle batteries with an annual capacity of 30,000 tons.
The Spanish site, where LOTTE EM will build the second overseas smart factory following Kuching, Malaysia, has a total area of 440,400㎡(the size of 62 soccer fields), and LOTTE EM can create a high-end copper foil production line with a capacity of 100,000 tons.
This investment corresponds to the first stage and will build a copper foil production line with a capacity of 30,000 tons. Considering the additional expansion step by step in the future, it plans to secure about 500,000 square meters of land for solar power generation along with advanced investment in infrastructure.
Last year, LOTTE EM was included in a super-large project worth 70 billion euros (about KRW 99 trillion) to build Spain into a European electric vehicle production hub centered on the Volkswagen Group.
Kim Yeon-seop, CEO of LOTTE EM, said, “LEM will expand the Spanish smart factory to a scale of 30,000 tons, which is larger than the previous plan, and will be operated as a key base to actively respond to high-end elecfoil demand while satisfying the localization needs of European customers and based on differentiated product technology, we will become the first vendor for European battery customer”

롯데에너지머티리얼즈가 2025년까지 스페인 스마트팩토리를 완공하고 유럽 하이엔드 동박 시장을 공략한다고 7일 밝혔다.
롯데에너지머티리얼즈는 스페인 카탈루냐주 몬로이치(Mont-roig del Camp)에 총 5600억원을 투자해 연산 3만톤 규모의 전기차 배터리용 하이엔드 동박 생산기지를 완공할 계획이다.
말레이시아 쿠칭에 이어 두 번째 해외 스마트팩토리가 들어설 스페인 부지는 총면적 44만 400㎡(축구장 62개 크기)로 10만톤 규모의 하이엔드 동박 생산라인이 들어설 수 있다.
이번 투자는 1단계에 해당하며 3만톤 규모의 동박 생산라인을 구축할 예정이다. 향후 단계별 추가 증설을 고려해 인프라 선행 투자와 함께 태양광 발전용 부지 약 50만㎡도 확보할 계획이다.
지난해 폭스바겐 그룹을 중심으로 스페인을 유럽 전기자동차 생산 허브로 구축하는 총 700억 유로(한화 약 99조원)의 초대형 프로젝트에 롯데에너지머티리얼즈를 포함시켰다.
김연섭 롯데에너지머티리얼즈 대표는 “스페인 스마트팩토리는 기존 계획보다 확대된 3만톤 규모로 증설해 유럽 고객사의 현지화 요구를 만족시키는 동시에 하이엔드 동박 수요를 적극 대응하는 핵심 거점으로 운영할 예정“이라며, “차별화된 제품 기술력을 바탕으로 유럽 배터리 고객사의 퍼스트 벤더가 되겠다”고 밝혔다.
